Duncan is in a beautiful location on eastern Vancouver Island. There are lots of good fall activities for seniors, and we’ll list some for you here.

  • Wine TastingThere are several wine-tasting opportunities and tours through the Cowichan Valley. There are many wineries and places to see where grapes are grown and processed. Some local wineries are Blue Grouse Estate Winery, Alderlea Vineyards, Zanatta Winery, and Deol Vineyard, to name a few.
  • A Simple WalkThe weather will be mostly mild, and Duncan is great for walks. To the east, there is the Georgia Strait, and you can walk along the ocean. To the south and west, there is the Cowichan River leading back into the island’s interior. There are many parks along the river, such as Glenora Trails Head Park and Stoney Regional Park which is closer to the ocean. There are phone apps that will tell you the tides daily if that interests you, or you can look them up online. Low tide is when you may find some treasures on the beach, and that is also a great time to use a metal detector!
  • OutdoorsFor the more adventurous among us, there are other more sports-minded activities like hiking and camping groups and tours that head out in every direction.
  • The RaptorsThe Raptors is an organization that offers interactive experiences with these extraordinary birds found near Duncan—and all over Vancouver Island.

As long as the weather holds up, we recommend taking advantage of it to go outside. Before long, we will be seeing plenty of rain, and we will have to concentrate on indoor entertainment.
