After 50 successful years of creating intimate homestyle living spaces for local seniors, we at Norman Manor celebrated our 50th anniversary on Saturday, June 24 2017 with real style.
We gathered all of Norman Manor’s residents together, invited their families to come down, and hosted an amazing BBQ lunch.
Some of our wonderful suppliers, entertainers, and previous staff also stopped by to join the party. All in all, we had about 50 guests attend. (There was a real ‘50’ theme going on!)
These two lovely ladies Hazel and Dolly, are currently our longest term residents. They joined us in 2008 and 2009.
A very special guest in attendance was Robert Skelton, the son of Agnes Skelton who built, started, and ran Norman Manor in 1967.
Fun fact: Agnes named Norman Manor after her late husband, Norman Skelton!
Also in attendance was the mayor of Chilliwack, Sharon Gaetz, who said grace for lunch and presented us with a certificate of congratulations..
All of the staff came together to prepare lunch for the guests. We enjoyed some traditional favourites like hamburgers, hot dogs, and salads. If we do say so ourselves, all the food was delicious!
And who could forget about dessert?
We also indulged in some delightful cake and cupcakes that were supplied by our friends at the Sardis Bakery.
After lunch, we were entertained by Dan Bissonette on the guitar. Dan is one of the entertainers that comes a few times a year to entertain the seniors. He is a professional musician with a colorful past that includes playing in the band for Nestor Pistor.
Everyone had a wonderful time, and we are so grateful to have had such an amazing turn out.
It’s an honour to work so closely with senior citizens, and we’re really looking forward to the next 50 years of building connections and creating the perfect retirement lifestyle for our residents!
