Celebrating Remembrance Day

At Optima Living, we paused to reflect on the bravery and dedication of all who served. For the past 107 years, at the eleventh hour on November 11th, Canadians have observed a moment of silence to honour those who gave everything for our freedom.
This past Remembrance Day, we were proud to honour our remarkable residents who had served their country with courage and pride. Among them were:
- Roy B., who was an underwater weapons specialist
- Elmer B., who served in the Navy
- Rosemary D. and Doug P., who were both Air Force veterans
- Bev H., who proudly served in the Army
- Megan A., who was a member of the Women’s Land Army
- Leo G., who served 24 years in the Air Force as a radio operator
- Daniel R., who served at CFB Halifax in hospital administration
Each of these residents had a story of service, sacrifice, and resilience, and we were proud to have them as part of our Optima Living community. Their experiences continue to inspire the spirit of remembrance and gratitude in all of us.

At Aster Gardens, we had a fantastic time celebrating Halloween with a festive parade, live entertainment, and plenty of sweet treats!

At Wisteria Place, we gathered for a heartfelt Remembrance Day ceremony. Residents and team members came together to reflect, honour, and remember those who served.
Together, we recited the famous “In Flanders Fields” poem, as well as “Sam’s Sloppy Sniper Section,” by Don Urghart, the late husband of our very own resident Jennifer. After these readings, all in attendance shared a moment in silence.
Earlier this month, our wonderful staff member Cathy handcrafted poppies to collect donations for the Canadian Legion, a beautiful gesture of care and remembrance.

We had a spooky Halloween Celebration at Lewis Estates! Our team members and residents got into the Halloween spirit and dressed up in some fang-tastic costumes

A heartfelt thank you to Lois Hole Elementary for inviting our residents to your wonderful Remembrance Day ceremony. It was a touching morning of remembrance, respect, and gratitude.

At Everitt Gardens for Halloween, our residents made the cutest pumpkins in the patch!

When the ghouls got together, we had a frightfully fun time! Our ghost art was absolutely bootiful, full of laughs, creativity, and spooky charm. Always a treat when this ghoul gang gets crafting!

Just a bunch of ghouls getting our paint on! Between the laughter, spackle, and spooky creativity, we brewed up some bootiful masterpieces.

St. Albert mayoral candidate Rick Dory stopped by Everitt Gardens to meet our residents and share his vision for the community. It was great to have the opportunity to chat and learn more about his plans for our city!

We also welcomed mayoral candidate Scott Olivieri for a visit and a great conversation! We were proud to be a mobile polling station for our residents on October 14, making it easy for every voice to be heard!

The Edmonton Classic Sports Car Club came to the community to display their beautiful collection to the residents of MacTaggart, and the weather did not disappoint!

There were plenty of simple joys and sunny skies at Mario’s Farm. Days like these remind us how sweet life really is.

A wonderful concert, pies in the face, and endless laughter made up our End of Summer Party! We rocked out with The Allsorts, held a hilarious auction where team members were pied, and even one brave resident took a pie to the face—sweet revenge from our manager after last year’s surprise! We wrapped it all up with a toast to summer, sipping on a delicious fruity punch.

Our residents and team members at Cedarwood Station had a spooktacular Halloween filled with laughter, friends and maybe a few ghostly grins. It was a treat to see so many smiling faces. We loved saying hello to all the trick-or-treaters who stopped by!

This past Halloween, it was a blast decorating pumpkins with some close family members participating. We witnessed tremendous creativity and laughter from our long-term care residents.
