Intergenerational Mural Project:
Creativity, Community, and Connection

The Hamlets at Westsyde recently hosted The Intergenerational Mural Project, a collaboration between children, high school students, and senior residents. Over two days, participants worked together to create a mural that will serve as a lasting symbol of community and connection. Featured on local TV station, CFJC, the project brought connection and creativity to the forefront as young and older generations shared stories and painted side by side. This inspiring event bridged generational gaps to celebrate the strength of community.

Optima Living Principal Domenic Comida stopped by to see Westsyde resident Linda and students from Westsyde Secondary in action.

Happy Diwali

October 31st marked the celebration of Diwali! Also known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil. We hope that those who celebrated had an amazing festival!

At Aster Gardens, we gathered to celebrate Doris, who recently had her 101st birthday!

Happy Birthday Doris!

Residents gathered for a heartfelt Remembrance Day ceremony, reflecting on the sacrifices made by our veterans. Our community came together to reflect on the deep sense of gratitude we have for those who served.
In preparation for Remembrance Day, some of our talented residents crocheted and knitted poppies to decorate our home. Standing proudly next to the Honour Tree, which displays the names of our veterans and loved ones who served, they’ve also created two beautiful crosses, one of which will be donated to the local Legion.

Happy Halloween from Cottonwood Village! We enjoyed a festive visit from local elementary school students, who sang songs, paraded in their costumes, and joined us for snacks before leaving with candy and treats!
Remembrance Day brought our community together for a time of reflection, appreciation, and gratitude. It was a moving opportunity to honour the sacrifice of those who served. Special appreciation goes to Master Corporal Tony Walsh, who served in the army and Master Warrant Officer Lawrence Bert, who served in the Air Force. Their dedication reminds us of the strength and bravery of our veterans. We remember them, and we thank them.

Residents at Everitt Gardens commemorated our heroes through creativity and came together to make heartfelt Remembrance Day crafts.

Happy Halloween from Everitt Gardens! Our delicious Halloween treats had a little extra BITE this year!

We enjoyed great company and great wine as we raised a glass to International Merlot Day!
The residents and Veterans at Parkwood Place reflected on this special day of Remembrance with songs, stories and prayers. We are also thankful to local trumpeter Greg Sly, a member of the Royal Canadian Navy's Naden Band, for honouring Canada's Veterans by playing The Last Post and The Rouse.
On Remembrance day, we honoured the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in defence of our freedoms. We pause to reflect on their sacrifices, their courage, and their commitment.

By remembering the past and its terrible toll, we commit ourselves to fostering diplomacy, understanding, and unity so that all may live in peace. Thank you to the Red Deer Legion for hosting a ceremony for our residents and to the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery for your displays on the first and second world wars.

Happy Halloween! Our residents decorated some witch hats yesterday in preparation for our Halloween fashion show and we had a spook-tacular time!

We stepped back into the Roaring 20s for a thrilling murder mystery event this Halloween, complete with delicious themed snacks like flapper pie.
We’ve had a spectacular spooky season! Thank you to George Macdougall High School for carving pumpkins with us, and to our residents and team for making the day so much fun! We hope you had a safe and happy Halloween!

We had the chance to attend the Airdrie Minor Hockey AA Lightning ‘Pink the Rink’ game in support of Breast Cancer! This hockey team volunteered at Cedarwood over Thanksgiving, and our residents wanted to ‘return the favour’ and show some support for our favourite local team!
Residents gathered for an elegant high tea, complete with delicious treats, fine china, and warm conversations!

We have suites available across our various communities, and we'd love to show you around. To get a feel for what living in our communities is like and to meet some of our residents and staff, you can book a private tour. Click the link below to schedule your visit. We hope to see you soon!
