Intergenerational Mural Project:
Creativity, Community, and
Connection
|
|
The Hamlets at Westsyde recently
hosted The Intergenerational Mural
Project, a collaboration between
children, high school students, and
senior residents. Over two days,
participants worked together to create
a mural that will serve as a lasting
symbol of community and connection.
Featured on local TV station, CFJC,
the project brought connection and
creativity to the forefront as young
and older generations shared stories
and painted side by side. This
inspiring event bridged generational
gaps to celebrate the strength of
community.
Optima Living Principal Domenic Comida
stopped by to see Westsyde resident
Linda and students from Westsyde
Secondary in action.

Healthy Ageing:
Prioritize Your Mental and
Physical Wellness
|
|
Ageing is a natural part of life, but
your lifestyle choices can
significantly affect your well-being
as you get older. That’s why it’s
important to prioritize healthy
ageing!
Healthy ageing means embracing
activities and habits that support an
active, independent, and purposeful
life throughout the years. It’s about
nurturing physical well-being, staying
engaged in meaningful pursuits, and
enjoying a fulfilling lifestyle that
enhances overall quality of life. At
Optima Living, we empower seniors to
lead vibrant lives.

Residents gathered for a
heartfelt Remembrance Day
ceremony, reflecting on the
sacrifices made by our
veterans. Our community came
together to reflect on the
deep sense of gratitude we
have for those who
served.

In preparation for Remembrance
Day, some of our talented
residents crocheted and knitted
poppies to decorate our home.
Standing proudly next to the
Honour Tree, which displays the
names of our veterans and loved
ones who served, they’ve also
created two beautiful crosses,
one of which will be donated to
the local Legion.

Remembrance Day brought our
community together for
a time of reflection,
appreciation, and gratitude.
It was a moving opportunity
to honour the sacrifice of
those who
served. Special
appreciation goes to Master
Corporal Tony Walsh, who
served in the army and
Master Warrant Officer
Lawrence Bert, who served in
the Air Force. Their
dedication reminds us of the
strength and bravery of our
veterans. We remember them,
and we thank them.

The residents and Veterans
at Parkwood Place reflected
on this special day of
Remembrance with songs,
stories and prayers. We are
also thankful to local
trumpeter Greg Sly, a member
of the Royal Canadian Navy's
Naden Band, for honouring
Canada's Veterans by playing
The Last Post

On Remembrance day, we
honoured the brave men and
women who have served and
continue to serve in defence
of our freedoms. We pause to
reflect on their sacrifices,
their courage, and their
commitment.
By remembering the past and
its terrible toll, we commit
ourselves to fostering
diplomacy, understanding,
and unity so that all may
live in peace. Thank you to
the
Red Deer Legion
for hosting a ceremony for
our residents and to
the
Red Deer Museum + Art
Gallery
for your displays on the
first and second world
wars.
