Recognizing World Alzheimer’s Day: A Commitment to Memory Care at Optima Living

Posted on September 20th, 2024

Every year on September 21st, the world comes together to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia through World Alzheimer’s Day. It’s a day to acknowledge the millions of people affected globally, to reflect on the progress of research, and to renew our collective commitment to better care and support. At Optima Living, we understand the profound impact this disease has on individuals and families, which is why our Memory Care communities across Alberta and British Columbia are thoughtfully designed to provide the best possible support for residents living with dementia.

Raising Awareness and Hope

World Alzheimer’s Day is not only a call to action but also a symbol of hope. Significant strides are being made in dementia research, and at Optima Living, we are proud to be part of a community that champions dignity, respect, and an enhanced quality of life for those affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. As we look forward to the future, we're excited about the evolution of our memory care services, aimed at enriching residents' experiences even further. While we’ll be introducing more soon, our goal remains the same: to create safe, meaningful, and compassionate care environments.

This World Alzheimer’s Day, we honour the resilience of those living with dementia, acknowledge the dedication of caregivers, and reaffirm our commitment to building a future where Alzheimer’s no longer defines the lives of so many.

Supporting Families on the Alzheimer’s Journey

We recognize that Alzheimer’s doesn’t just affect individuals—it affects entire families. At Optima Living, we are committed to supporting families throughout their journey. Through family education programs, regular communication, and emotional support, we ensure that families are empowered with the knowledge and resources to care for their loved ones.

The Heart of Memory Care at Optima Living

Our specialized Memory Care communities are more than just care communities—they are safe, nurturing environments where individuals with dementia can maintain a sense of dignity and purpose. Each community is designed with a focus on personalized care, ensuring that residents’ unique needs are met with compassion and respect.

At Optima Living, we proudly operate the following Memory Care communities:

  • Alberta: Aspen Ridge, Aster Gardens, Everitt Gardens, Hawthorne, Lewis Estates, MacTaggart Place, Meadowlands, Rutherford Heights, Sagebrush, Summerwood Village, Sweetgrass, The Hamlets at Red Deer

  • British Columbia: Oakwood Manor, The Hamlets at Duncan, The Hamlets at Penticton, The Hamlets at Vernon, and The Hamlets at Westsyde

These communities are thoughtfully designed and staffed by trained teams equipped to navigate the complexities of dementia care with compassion. Whether it’s through structured daily routines, stimulating activities, or emotional support, we ensure each resident receives the individualized attention they deserve.

Creating a Safe and Supportive Environment

Our communities incorporate innovative design features that promote safety, comfort, and a sense of familiarity for residents. From secure outdoor spaces to sensory-stimulating environments, every element is tailored to improve quality of life and foster meaningful connections.

Looking Forward

While our Memory Care program already offers specialized care tailored to individual needs, we are excited to soon introduce an even more enhanced approach—one that continues to uphold the principles of respect, compassion, and purpose. By doing so, we aim to deepen the enriching experiences available for our residents in meaningful and innovative ways.
