Local Media Captured by Seniors' Viral TikTok

Residents of Everitt Gardens—our Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care community located in St. Alberta, Alberta—have gone viral on TikTok with two of their videos, gaining hundreds of thousands of views, thousands of likes, and hundreds of comments.

The videos, in which residents show their Edmonton Oilers team spirit, became breaking news, and continues to be featured in media outlets including the St. Albert Gazette, CityNews Edmonton, the Daily Hive, CTV News Edmonton, and CTV News, and CBC News. One of their videos was also reposted by the official Hockey Night in Canada Instagram account.

Optima Living encourages a sense of community and coming together to support events in the community. Watching Oilers games bring a great sense of unity and spirit among the Everitt Gardens residents.

Lori Kary, Recreation Therapist of Everitt Gardens, said "With our Edmonton Oilers TikToks going viral, the last few days have been a whirlwind for us here at Everitt Gardens! We have had six news outlets interview us and even a couple virtual interviews, one from CTV Toronto! Our ‘Pump up the Jam’ video posted on Friday already has 217,000 views!

I am so proud of our residents and my Recreation Aide Loida, who collaborates with me on ideas and edits the videos. Cheering on our favourite team brings a sense of community to Everitt Gardens and the buzz in our building is awesome! We dance, we laugh and most of all we have FUN!"
